My Approach
I am trained as an integrative counsellor, which means I can draw on different approaches depending on the issue, and the way of working that suits you best.
It's important that you need to feel safe in order to talk openly. I do my best to help you to feel comfortable by letting you take the lead on sessions, which means that you have full control over what you choose, or don't choose, to talk about. You are the expert on yourself and will know the pace you feel comfortable working at.
I won't interrupt you whilst you are talking. I will occasionally ask questions or make observations about what you've said. This could be to gain clarity, or to help you explore something further.
Counselling is not about giving advice, but about supporting you to explore your own issues and, if needed, finding coping strategies that work for you.
Below are some of the main theories I am trained in.

Gestalt Therapy
Gestalt therapy looks at the immediate present, how you are feeling currently, and what might be influencing that. It focuses on increasing awareness of self and environment to manage how you respond to situations.
CBT
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) looks at what your are experiencing now by looking at your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and ways of managing or coping with this.
Transactional Analysis
TA looks at the ways in which you interact and relate to others. This can be a really useful approach to explore if you are having difficulties with relationships.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is about the here and now. Focussing on this can be done in many different ways to suit you, your interests, and way of living.
